If I was buying a car I would buy one with a Rotax. As someone just stated at least the new Rotax bolts into the same place as the old one. I run in Solo II and would still rather update to another Rotax down the line than have to switch to another manufacturer. That's not saying that the others do not have good products too, but it is a lot easier for us low budget people to stay with the same manufacturer.

Bob -
This is why so many new guy's are shying away from buying old and new cars right now! I say lets get this done and over with! We have so many engineers and very experienced F500 racing people out there and I can't figure out what all the debate is on something that will keep the class strong!
I'm sure we can get the two engines to come very close in performance! I have seen over the years guys running AMW's that were rookies come in and out right kick butt against the experienced Rotax drivers. Lets work this out as soon as possible and get on with the fun!
I know I have not been able to find any engines and after selling two good used ones for a purchase of two new one s that are no longer available I'm just plain sick at my bad timing with this! I had big plans as to build our first car this winter and I can't even get an engine! Guess I'll put that on hold again!

I agree. There aren't even exhaust pipes available for these things yet. It
sounds like this motor would phase in naturally. Although, I still question
whether it's really got that much more power.

Almost forgot...
How many people are going to rush out and buy
a 493 for regionals only? With out some assurances
from SCCA that it will be "fully " approved the following
season I don't see it happening.
A 95-100hp F500 should finally outrun the fords though!
